In Washington, the current popular Potato variety for growing and shipping is the “Russet Norkotah”. It has a medium brown skin, is favored for its classic smooth oval ‘potato’ shape and is resistant to internal defects. The Norkotah variety is planted in early spring and can be ready for harvest in Mid-Late July depending on growing conditions. This variety is shipped year-round, with Washington and Oregon being leaders in bringing it into the limelight as the potato of choice in the fresh marketplace.
Basin Gold also ships two other varieties during our Summer harvest, these include a red potato and a yellow fleshed variety. Both the red and yellow varieties have short marketing seasons with availability from May into late August from both Washington & California.
